owning up to my ageism

In recent months I have been helping my mother deal with the increasing challenges she is facing at age 85. This help included looking for new "place" for her to live. It was time for her to leave her independent living accommodations to move on to assisted living.

It was a rough process during which I was whomped by the intensity of my own ageism.

I  always say it's good to be confronted with the reality of our own biases.

I do, of course, find it very humbling to realize what a jerk I can be.
And it's a double-humble because at 57 I often rage against ageism and the implied devaluation that accompanies it.
